What this policy covers

Chess Clock is operated by James Vanderhaak. This policy describes the Chess Clock website and the iPhone app.

Your clocks and presets

The website stores time controls, saved presets and the latest clock checkpoint in your browser's local storage. This information is used to restore your session and preferences. It is not sent to an application server. Browser data belongs to that browser and does not synchronise across devices.

The iPhone app stores clock sessions, presets and preferences locally on the device. Device backups may be managed by your operating system and Apple account settings.

Website hosting

The website is hosted on Vercel. When you visit a hosted page, hosting infrastructure processes technical request information such as your IP address, browser information and requested URL to deliver and protect the site. This is separate from clock and preset storage. See Vercel's Privacy Notice for its processing practices. Hosting request logs are handled under Vercel’s service policies and the project’s applicable plan.

Analytics, advertising and sharing

The website uses Plausible Analytics to count page visits, web clock starts, two-move clock use and clicks toward the iPhone app. The iPhone app uses Plausible to count onboarding steps, demo interactions, and purchase or restore outcomes. Native events identify the 15-second demonstration and platform; website events include the page and platform. We do not send saved preset names, clock values, moves, contact details, advertising IDs or a persistent device identifier. Plausible processes connection IP addresses and user-agent information to produce aggregate visitor and location statistics. See Plausible’s data policy. The app also keeps at most 200 recent funnel events locally for diagnostics. Analytics is best effort and never required to play. There is no advertising, account system, contact form or marketing signup. We do not sell clock or preset information. The clock does not request location, contacts, camera or microphone access.

iPhone purchases

The iPhone app uses Apple’s in-app purchase system for a one-time full unlock. Apple processes payment and purchase records; the app checks purchase entitlement to unlock access and restore purchases. We do not receive payment card details. Purchase and restore outcome analytics are described above.

Retention and deletion

Local website data remains until you delete individual presets, clear Chess Clock's site data in your browser, or your browser removes it. Clearing site data removes saved clocks, presets and preferences. Hosting request data is retained under the hosting provider's applicable configuration and policies. We do not promise a specific retention period that has not been configured and verified.

Children

The clock is usable without submitting personal information. We do not knowingly ask children to provide personal information through this website.

Your choices and questions

You can use the clock without saving a named preset. Your browser may restrict storage; the clock will show a warning if a session cannot be saved. The support page explains recovery and local deletion. For support or privacy questions, email hello@jarve.com.au.

Changes

If data practices change, this policy and the applicable App Store disclosures will be updated. The revision date appears above.
